How does TOEFL operate

This is not only the essential exams for entry to universities in the U.S. and many countries but taking the TOEFL test is a very important part of a student's journey to studying in an English speaking country or university programme. The test measures how well students use English language. It is valid and reliable test with unbiased, objective scoring. It confirms that a student has the English language skills necessary to succeed in an academic setting. The test has been administered more than 20million times since 1964. It is also accepted in more than 6,000 colleges, universities and agencies in 110 countries. That is why it has become popular and acceptable in many institutions of higher learning.

The programme is designed to test the following aspects:

Reading

This section is made up of 3-5 academic reading passages followed by comprehension questions which normally take 60-100 minutes.

Listening

It consists of 4-6 lecturers, 6 questions each; 2-3 conversations and 5 questions each. It lasts for 20 minutes.
